Title: The Grouchy Ladybug
Author: Eric Carle
Illustrator: Eric Carle
Publisher: HarperCollins
Publication Date: August 27, 1977
ISBN: 0-590-31227-8
Summary: This book is about a grouchy lady bug who becomes a bully
and tries to pick a fight with various animals throughout the day. The lady bug
goes from animal to animal and tells them that they are not big enough to fight.
The ladybug eventually reached home where the friendly lady bug awaits and offers
him left over aphids for dinner. The grouch ladybug was thankful and they both went
to be bed happy.
Personal Statement: I have always thought this book was a good
book, but not great. The story starts with the ladybug wanting to fight, but I
never understood why the ladybug wanted to fight in the first place. This book
however does have very nice illustrations and is a perfect picture book for
young children to read or be read to.
